Had my 12 yr old daughter’s birthday dinner there. Very relaxed family friendly atmosphere. The food and attendants were all on point. They specifically prepared a dessert with a candle to commemorate my daughter’s bday. Very nice drinks too.

We went here to celebrate my wife's birthday and this has easily become a new favorite restaurant that we will be back to. Everything about the food was fantastic and we cannot think of any particular item that wasn't good enough to be a favorite. Highly recommend the whole snapper. Our server was herself and very friendly. The entire serving staff noticeably helped each other, was organized, and very calm. Kitchen staff didn't seem rushed or stressed as well. A sign of a well run restaurant.

The day after a beautiful snowfall, my wife and I found ourselves in the North Loop warming our hearts and souls at Guacaya Bistreaux over a joyous birthday brunch! I had the thought of a good paella in the back of my mind after a memory of my wife and I making one with a chef in Puerto Vallarta for her birthday a few years back and heard chef Pedro makes something special in this regard. Our timing of dining today fell into the brunch menu, which at first didn't excite me much, but when the pork stuffed plantains, shrimp and grits, truffle yucca and pork eggs Benedict came and we started into the culinary journey, I found that the paella was but a distant memory. The flavors of each dish were complimentary to each other, but never felt over the top or loud like that 'uncle with the big ego'. We fell into a wonderful home cooked feeling of comfort as the warm sun rays came in through the window on our corner table. It was a pleasure to chat and share hugs with Chef Pedro, and his wonderful mother, Mimi, who surprised my Queen Starr with a chilled and delicious tres leches desert to celebrate her birthday! We will be back for that Paella!!

If you are looking for great tasting food and the customer service attached to it, Guacaya Bistreaux is a must to do for an elegant evening of food and atmosphere. We chose Guacaya upon a recommendation. As you walk in we were greeted by the hostess Mimi, who was upon further talking with her, was the owner of the eatery. She was fun, bubbly, and excited to have us at her restaurant. She sat us and immediately connected with her by revealing to us of her restaurant. The place is open, airy, and having been to Central America and the Caribbean, you close your eyes and reopen you would think you were on the coast of a Latin American coastal country. Mariano, our waiter was also kind, inviting, and helpful with our decision for alcoholic drinks and their food choices. As our first ordered arrived to the table, the ceviche, it was beautifully presented and the flavors of the ocean were forward. It was citrusy, tart, creamy, and sweet, where the small mounds of sweet potato were the needed sweetness to cut through all other flavors. I could go on, really, I could. But I recommend you go see Mimi and her staff that gave us a nice night of food, ambiance, and connection.

I got the jerk chicken, and it was a huge piece of chicken, and I couldn't finish, so I had to take it home . My sister got seafood paella and it was delicious. We both shared the Panamanian beef skewer, and this is just my opinion only. It looked like the beef wasn't well done cooking, so it was still raw inside. So yeah, I didn't finish. I gave it to my sister instead. Tres' leches were delicious . Loved it. The environment was cool. The parking, I know it's downtown, so yeah. Just go early to find a parking and walk.

my girlfriend loves seafood and we went to guacaya to try their paella, it was amazing, they also have a special cold menu just for the bar, we tried the black aguachile and omg the flavors are so different but delicious, the sauce on top of the tostada makes you have a perfect bite full of flavors, I’m not a fan of cold seafood but I would definitely go back for that aguachile. we loved everything and it was so good but I think our favorite was the coriander lime prawns, a toast with watermelon pickles, green tomato relish and shrimp on top is another perfect bite, you’ll wish the experience would never end. they also have good music, the atmosphere is good for everything from a date to a meeting with friends and the service is very attentive.

My tummy is full but my heart is even more so!!! What a wonderful restaurant!!! Food.. service.. drinks! Everything was amazing. Know that you are supporting a small family business and not only that you won’t regret your decision to give this place a try. The family owners are just the sweetest most kind people you will meet and I could not rave enough about our meal. I will be back for sure.
